Creative life drawing classes with Billie loves Art | St Albans | Starting Sunday 23rd September.
Are you an artist looking to practise your drawing skills? Are you returning to drawing after a break and aren’t quite ready to draw nudes? Or are you a younger artist looking for the opportunity to draw the figure but find the thought of drawing nudes a little daunting? If so, come and join us at our creative (clothed) life drawing sessions, starting on Sunday 23rd September at The Maltings Arts Theatre, St Albans.
Billie loves Art is run by me, Billie Richardson, I’m a St Albans based mum and a part-time artist. I have exhibited my work locally and this year the Trestle Arts Base hosted my first solo exhibition. Sketching and drawing keeps me sane. I’ve always attended life drawing classes and drawing nudes is a wonderful challenge, but when I searched for a class where I could draw clothed people I couldn’t find any in St Albans so I decided to start my own costumed life drawing sessions.
Drawing nudes provides the foundations for drawing the human anatomy but drawing a clothed or costumed figure is important too…
It gives us a bigger visual vocabulary to work with. Learning how materials drape around the body and how folds and creases hang is invaluable knowledge, especially if we want to create work that is strong and true.
At each session you will have the opportunity to draw models dressed in costumes based on a theme. Some of the planned themes are, The Circus, Disco Dancers and even Post-Apocalypse Vigilantes! With props and background music, you will find yourself immersed in a theatrical and creative, yet relaxed and informal environment ready to draw, sketch or scribble.
September’s theme is ‘1960’s Music Festivals’. As this summer’s music festivals draw to a close, we have arranged an homage to some of the original festivals of the 60’s such as Isle of Wight, Monterey and Woodstock. Our models and props will reflect the 1960’s and the background music includes tracks by Jimi Hendrix, Mamas & The Papas, The Kinks, Santana, The Doors and a whole lot more….
You are welcome to join us if you are over the age of 12 years and are keen to improve your drawing abilities. Tuition will be available too.
